Cultural One-Day Trip @ Yokohama

This is a one-day tour that gives you an opportunity to familiarize with Japanese philosophy and spirituality that are at the base of Japanese culture.
It will be a treat for those who want to learn more about the real Japanese culture and its backbone—if you want more than a regular tourist attraction, come join this tour. 

 

Why is this tour so special?
-Many cultural elements are encompassed in this one-day trip.
-The venue is a private shrine which is not open to the public.
-The tour is small and private.
-There will be a Q&A session with a Shinto priest which is a very rare occasion.
-‘Matcha’ tea will be served by a grand master of tea ceremony in a traditional tearoom setting.
-You will be given guidance as to how to appreciate a traditional Japanese garden in terms of its aesthetic and concept.
-You will feel serenity—as if you have been transported to a different time and space.

 

Course 1
Enjoy making wagashi (Japanese sweets) and experience a tea ceremony

First, we will visit a local Japanese sweets confectionary workshop and have a hands-on experience in making traditional sweets. 
Next, we take a walk in a traditional Japanese garden with a guide where you can learn how to appreciate Japanese aesthetics.
Finally, we will participate in a tea ceremony conducted by a grand tea master where we drink tea and eat the sweets we created ourselves.
Enjoy the out-of-the-ordinary experience filled with serenity and beauty.

Course 2
Invitation to a Shrine and Tea Ceremony for Adults

This tour is designed to help you expand your understanding towards the concept of Japanese religion and philosophy. 
It will also include an 'Oharai' purification ceremony where the priest prays for participants’ good fortune.
After that, the tour will proceed to a traditional Japanese tearoom where a tea ceremony is conducted by a grand tea master who will serve tea to all participants.
You will have a rare opportunity to question the priest on any topic you wish, be it on Japanese Shinto religion or tea ceremony. 
I hope you enjoy this out-of-the-ordinary experience in a tranquil time and space.

This tour will take about 2 hours.

*Both courses include a walk in a traditional Japanese garden.*The traditional Japanese tearoom is located inside a private shrine in Yokohama city which is normally not open to the public.
